演講主題:Relative equilibria in the N-body problem

A relative equilibrium for the N-body problem is a periodic solution that becomes equilibrium in a uniformly rotating coordinate system. This type of solutions plays a very important role in celestial mechanics. In this talk I will briefly describe some old problems and recent progress on relative equilibria, including Moeckel and Hampton's remarkable work on finiteness of relative equilibria for the 4-body problem. Their approach is based on some machinery in computational algebraic geometry. This finiteness question for N-body problems has been proposed for about one century and listed by Smale as his 6th problem for the 21st century.
