On the example of Kuramoto-Sivashinsky PDE (KS-PDE) I will describe the method of self-consistent bounds and I will show how it was used to obtain computer assisted proofs of
-the existence of multiple steady states, their bifurcations
and stability/instability information,
- the existence of periodic orbits, both stable and unstable
- the prospects of the proof of the existence of symbolic dynamics for KS-PDE will be also discussed
The method combines finite dimensional topological tools (fixed
point index, Brouwer Theorem), some analytical estimates to
control about Galerkin projections and rigorous numerics for
differential inclusions (a Lohner-type algorithm).
