  J. Palis conjectures that every system can be approximated by one that is very simple, or by one that is very complicated. More precisely, he conjectures that every system can be approximated by a Morse-Smale system, or by one that exhibits a transeverse homoclinic point. The conjecture has been solved recently by S. Crovisier. In this talk we give a general background for the problem and illustrate his proof.
