  • 摘要內容:

    The mathematical formulation of the problem of the nuclear explosion and its theoretical analysis has always been a challenging task. It is an important topic either in applied math or physics. A simple way to simulate an explosion is to view it as a spherical piston motion, pushing out undisturbed air ahead of it. In the motion, shocks are produced. Mathematically, the continuous flow behind the shock is governed by the equations of gas dynamics. And along the shock trajectory, the theory of shocks imposes boundary conditions on the given system. Its nonlinear studies were initiated by G. I. Taylor, John Von Neumann and many other bright minds.
    In this talk, I will give a brief introduction about some interesting problems. Then based on the observations of G. I.Taylor, self-similar solutions will be analyzed. In particular, the relation between the shock Mach number and the velocity of the piston is derived. By constructing suitable approximation schemes using self-similar solutions as building blocks, the propagation of the shock wave can be investigated.
