研究趣向

從事研究過程

自研讀博士學位起即從事非線性偏微分方程的基礎性研究，之後又擴展其研究領域至星球演化理論，動態系統，胞狀神經網路及動態系統在數論的應用。

研究成果

1. 非線性橢圓偏微分方程方面：利用變分法及分枝理論去研究對稱區域的對稱解如何產生對 稱破壞，從而尋找多種部分對稱解。同時研究奇異解的存在性，進而分析其多重解問題的 影響。對非線性橢圓型偏微分方程多重解的產生機制有深入的瞭解及貢獻。
2. 非線性雙曲型偏微分方程方面：研究尤拉波桑非線性方程的線性化固有值問題從而嚴格證 明氣態星球的穩定性問題，證實天文學家多年來的猜測。另外對燃燒理論黎曼問題有關燃 點、束縛能等相關問題給出嚴格的數學論證。近年來並證明相對論尤拉方程解的存在性。
3. 胞狀神經網路方面：胞狀神經網路在模仿人腦的運作，在工程尚可用來做影像 處理、圖形辨識、生物視覺及模擬人腦之用。在數學上是個大型甚至於是無窮維的動態系統，可產生非常複雜的行為。多年來與國內一群學者研究此系統產生混沌的機制，至今對型的分類及其空間熵的研究已有突破性的進展，也獲得行進波的存在及多重性，並建立 相關的數值模擬軟體。 最近在多層細胞狀神經系統結構中，發現它是多維 Sofic shift，此結構可用來實現一大部分的抽象Sofic shift系統，研究這是一個重要的範例。SFT是Sofic shift的特例，花樣生成方法將會進一步推廣到多維Sofic shift上。

4. 動態系統方面：最近的研究工作有
   

   (1)定義局部花樣(local patterns)的n-階有序矩陣(ordering matrix) X_n; 並發現其遞迴公式。由此導出其 n-階轉移矩陣(transition matrix) H_n(B)及其遞迴公式。再證明SFT Σ(B)的熵(ρ為最大固有值)。如此多維SFT的熵有了一個明確且良好逼近解法。這是半世紀來先前研究者未曾發現的重要遞迴公式，奠定SFT研究的基礎。

   (2)在(1)的基礎下，進一步發現X^m_n的遞迴公式。由此引進了連繫算子(connecting operator) C_m及S_m，由S_m可用來估熵的下界與檢驗混合(mixing)性質。同時對週期花樣，引進跡算子(trace operator) T_m及簡跡算子(reduced trace operator)τ_m。透過S_m，本文建立判斷空間混沌問題(spatial chaos，即熵h(B)是否為正)的有系統方法，此問題已困擾學者多年。

   (3)半世紀前由Artin-Mazur引進動態Zeta函數後，進展很少，Bowen-Lanford證明了一維SFT的Zeta函數為有理函數。但對多維問題，多年來一直毫無進展，只有一些定義和零星結果。後來發現Lind的定義最富代數結構及潛力，就選定其定義。利用(2)中的跡算子及新引進的轉動矩陣(rotational matrix)成功FT的Zeta函數為有理函數的無窮乘積，並發現若以GL₂(Z)中元素造斜角座標系(skew coordinates)，也可獲得類似的表現式。換句話說，這一族GL₂(Z)表現式皆為原先原點附近解析函數的meromorphic extension。因為在原點的泰勒展式係數皆相等，由此可獲一族數論等式。目前已發現一些有趣的應用，進一步的應用尚在發展中。

   (4)王浩院士在20世紀六十年代研究邏輯證明問題時，提出一個王猜測(Wang’s conjecture)：若Σ(B)非空，則P(B)非空；即，若選用著色規則B可把Z²塗滿，則也可以週期性地塗滿。他的博士生Berger利用20426個tiles證明王猜測是錯的，即存在著色規則B使得Σ(B)≠∅但P(B)=∅。後來包含Penrose等人發表的更多重要結果，目前已知要造此類B，最少顏色數是5，tiles數是13。兩個顏色時，引進最小週期生成器(minimum cycle generator)概念，成功?C3個顏色亦用同樣概念，利用電腦輔助檢驗，也證明王猜測是對的。目前只剩4個顏色待解。
