Taiwan Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Preparatory Stage ( 2012-01-03 )

(1)Purpose of the society: With the growing importance of applied mathematics in multidisciplinary research, it has become necessary to establish this society in order to further facilitate cooperation and exchange between the Taiwanese mathematics community and industrial and technological communities. Through this society we hope to assure the important role mathematics plays in the development of Taiwanese technology.
Work and goals of the society
(i)Develop the Taiwanese industrial and applied mathematics community.
(ii)Promote and popularize the training of mathematical personnel and academic research.
(iii)Open up international mathematical academic cooperation. Elevate the Taiwanese academic influence.
(iv)Combine the energy in manufacturing, governmental, academic and research and development to generate greater economic value.
(v)Hosting academic, university-industry liaison projects and events.
(2)Criteria for acceptance: Society members can be classified into 6 categories, which include general members, permanent members, student members, group members, honor members and sponsor members.
(a)General members: Members that meet with one of the following qualifications with approval from the board and have paid membership fees.
i.Teachers or research personnel working in universities or research institutes whose field of research are in mathematics, applied mathematics, engineering or other related fields.
ii.University graduates with a background of one of the related fields, and are now working in the industry with mathematical specialties.
iii.People with research achievements and interests in the fields of industrial and applied mathematics.
iv.Members from foreign liaison institutes approved by the society as exchange members.
(b)Permanent members: General members who are willing to pay the permanent membership fees.
(c)Student members: University students with related backgrounds who are approved by the board.
(d)Group members: groups or organizations willing to sponsor the society with recommendation from at least 5 society members and approved by the board.
(e)Honor members: Prestige foreign scholars who’ve made great contributions to the society; with recommendations from at least 5 society members and approval from the board.
(f)Sponsor members: Members who have made certain amount of donations, are recommended by at least 5 society members and approved by the board.
(3)Membership application in the establishing period is open until 2/15/2012.
